Starting right out, this article states the simple conclusion of the trial against the Prime Minister of Malaysia, Najib Razak as cleared with no punishment. It gives evidence found by the Malaysian Anti-corruption Commission (MACC) that the RM2.03 billion ($620 million) found in Mr. Razak's accounts was "freely given to Najib by the Saudi royal family" and that it was without any consideration. Also, Najib gave back the money in August 2013 because it was "not utilized" which meant no actual harm was done and no money was spent when it shouldn't have been. He was also cleared of any wrongdoing "over government guarantees on RM4 billion ($931 million) of loans to a state-owned company called SRC International from a governmental retirement fund called Kumpulan Wang Persaraan (KWAP)" since Najib did not seem to profit from the decision made by his cabinet. The article concludes with the rundown of the accusations (dates and by whom they were made), the accounts involved, and the Prime Minister's denial.
I have a great sense of corruption in the Malaysian government as well as the investigations of the Prime Minister and his funds, companies, and accounts. It seems that since Najib never did anything with the funds they found in his accounts, he is clear of any wrongdoing yet maybe he didn't fulfill his plan due to the interventions of investigators. The government and politics can be very corrupt and the fact that the investigations have found evidence of this money that is supposed to be for the country going directly o the Prime Minister's accounts seems suspicious. However, since those investagtions have started, the government and PM seem to be getting back on the riht track, I only hope they stay there and do what is right for their country as a whole and not just themselves.
This conclusion to the Prime Minister's trials is important to the politics of Malaysia due to the fact of possible corruption and selfishness. The government seems to be in complete control of the countries funds and is allowing Najib to gain money in personal accounts rather than going to the economy and communal projects. The politics in Malaysia are seen as righteous and helpful yet there seems to be twists in the road that lead to personal gain. Bad politics and leadership leads to poverty and a fallen economy in a country and this article on Najib's trial shows signs of this corruption which would be bad news for the Malaysian people.
